Perception..

Mountains look beautiful only when looked from a distance. But it would be foolish to say that you'd rather not admire the mountain's view, just coz you know that only when you get closer do you actually see the reality. In my opinion, as long as you know that you should keep that much distance in order to see the beauty of it, you're doing perfectly fine! P.S: I very humbly request the readers NOT to extrapolate this post to your whims and fancies. Please refrain. Thank you.

The one-odd month of 6th sem..

6th sem started somewhere in feb, and we're done with an internal..courtesy our time-table, not to mention the awesomeness of the person who came up with it, I feel like I've spent all my time in college since coll reopened. Life has been frustrating and fun alternately. The good part is it hasn't been boring. Books read of late: 1.Kiterunner(Khaled Hosseini)-can't find another piece of fiction so brilliantly written. Godfather comes second to this, though the two books aren't related in any way. I know you don't compare things which have nothing in common, but anyways..(actually, acc to me, you can find similarities even in things extremely dissimilar, if you have a keen eye. Go figure) 2.Straight from the gut(Jack Welch)- I can't rate this, as I skipped thru half the pages in the book. The parts I read, I liked. Rather, I should say, the parts I liked, I read. 3.Like the flowing river(Paulo Coelho)-a collection of stories that you have in all probability r...

The year that was..

A short post in remembrance of '09: 2009 was a good year. Cannot compare '09 with the previous one(that's almost always) as every year that goes by gives you something new, and when things are new, a first, there's nothing before it to compare with( I always believe in comparing my present to my past,so when it is a first of the kind, it becomes the standard for future comparison) . I like that. Diversifying my areas of interest, meeting new people, new ideas, yes, that sounds very kickass to me, and a little bit of all that was a part of '09. My reading habits now: Non-fiction holds a lot more appeal than fiction, fantasy is almost thrown out of the window. I'm yet to digest the fact that a non-fiction book can keep me interested just as much-or more than-as fiction. Its probably coz fiction is too predictable and you hardly get any fundae from them, contrary to books like The Tipping Point(to my surprise, I liked it!), or Freakonomics. Music: Metal, I've...

Us in DSP class..

Tried hard to resist the impulse of posting this. I initially wanted to post this as an update in the prev. post itself, but seeing tht I've written too much to consider it an update, I thought I'll post it as a separate entry itself. Here goes: What happens in my bench during DSP class: K.R-dutifully takes down notes, occasionally sends a msg or two, laughs at the jokes cracked by the others, listens to the lecture with an uncommon degree of interest and very rarely( I rem only one class where this happened-she actually was worse than kini tht day!) contributes to the nonsensical chatter, adds on to my extensions(dsp theories to life) when she's in the mood for it and gives me the why-on-earth-do-u-think-extrapolating-is-cool look everytime I come up with a lame one.. Zombie-the name is self-descriptive-scribbles random equations whenever she feels like, designs some new apparel(and asks kini if she'd like to wear something like tht) in her so-called 'notes' an...

Gyaan about life in DSP class..

Not many teachers can do that-explain( and sometimes mock at) life to you using the subject they're supposed to teach. So, Prof.Chetan Anand, one prof who can extrapolate DSP(Digital Signal Processing) concepts to life in different contexts, naturally turns out to be one prof I like and respect! A few excerpts: 1.When explaining window functions: Life is like an infinite impulse response, but if you've to make sense out of it, you have to convert it to a finite impulse response, and for that you use the window technique. There are diff. types of windows, and depending on ur requirements, (window functions are specified by transition width, stopband attenuation of the filter etc), u choose. So the bottom line is, life has infinite options. Its your imagination, your thinking, which acts as a window to ur world. If u want a beach view, choose to have a window which gives u just tht from ur house! If u want something else, then choose the position( and shape and width etc) acc. t...

Principles versus people..

Principles. All of you have your principles in life (or so I like to believe), and so do I. No, I'm not gonna talk about my principles, as it really doesn't matter. You don't need to know my principles, there's something far more important I want to convey.. So now, you have a set of principles you live by, and the set of people associated with you satisfy your principles in a very basic sense- for instance you don't become friends with someone who is say, the terror of the class, if you are say, the quiet(and peace loving) types.. But that doesn't stop you from getting acquainted with the guy. A classmate, acquaintance, but no friend. You get the point. You have some basic rules which people shouldn't break if you've to classify them under a certain category. Here's the baffling question: What do you do when people who you already relate to, decide to change their principles? In other words, an unintended Trojan horse?( I know there's nothing l...

A question finally answered..

In the recent years (more-so in the last one yr),there was this one question which continuously plagued my mind. Consistency in action in a particular field is absolutely essential for succeeding ,so what happens when you've had this shattering realisation that consistency is not one of the traits you've happened to cultivate or not simply been fortunate enough to be born with? What if you're the type who gives peak performances once in a while n remain in 'hibernate' mode otherwise? Of course, I'm implying that those peak performances are not rare, just that they are not on a day-to-day basis..Should you consistently attempt to be consistent? So on, and so forth. A fortnight ago or so, I came across a blog-post, where the blogger blogs bout this ‘stud-fighter’ theory.. This is his theory, which finally answered a lot of questions.. The original post is worth a read, though I'm gonna paraphrase it here. He talks about why batsmen need to show fighter quali...
